Shipping & Pickup

Where we ship

We ship live plants to 26 states and DC east of the Mississippi River.

Our region: Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.

Also shipped: Florida, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.

We ship to all states east of the Mississippi River.  We are certified compliant with Japanese Beetle and Imported Fire Ant quarantines.

If your state is not on the list above, checkout will not be able to offer you a shipping method. You are still very welcome to get in touch or to collect your plants at the nursery.

When we ship

Live plants only travel well in the cool halves of the year, so we ship in two windows:

  • Fall — September 1 to December 1 weather permitting
  • Spring — March 1 to June 1, weather permitting

You can order at any time of year. If your order arrives outside those windows, we hold it and ship on the next shipping date rather than sending plants out into the heat of summer or the middle of winter.

How plants are packed

Shipped plants go out in our 1 quart size, packed in trays of 8. A full tray of 8 keeps plants secure and not moving around in the box so they arrive at their destination in good condition.  You may mix varieties freely within a tray. Our larger container sizes are available for pickup at the nursery only.

Shipping is free on every order we are able to ship — any number of trays, to any state we ship to. Nothing is added at checkout.

If the quarts in your basket do not come to a multiple of 8, checkout will not offer a shipping method — it will say your order cannot be shipped to that address. The address is not the problem; the tray is. Add or remove quarts until the count reaches 8, 16, 24 and so on, or choose pickup instead.

Larger sizes are collected at the nursery

Our larger container sizes are available for pickup at the nursery only. They are too heavy and too awkward to ship well, and a plant that arrives in poor condition helps nobody. Order online and collect, or simply come and walk the rows.

One order, one method

Checkout offers a single choice for the whole order — either everything ships, or everything is collected. If you would like some plants shipped and a larger one collected, please place two separate orders. We are sorry for the nuisance; it is a limitation of the checkout, not a rule of ours.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, or your situation does not fit, please ask. We would far rather answer a question than have a plant arrive somewhere it should not have gone.
